RE plays an important part of the national curriculum. As the United Kingdom has a rich heritage of culture and the children are in and abundantly diverse community, it is important that pupils have a secure understanding of the beliefs around them. Religious education at Wendell Park also makes a
significant contribution to the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils and supports wider community cohesion.
Within RE, we aim to enable pupils to develop a secure knowledge and understanding of a number of religious beliefs and practices. Children are also given the opportunity to explore different religions, whilst developing their questioning and attitudes.
From Key Stage 1, the religions that children are taught about: Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism and Sikhism.
Within these lessons, children explore many of the fundamentals of these religions. Children should develop a secure understanding of different places of worship; the practices and rituals that they may have; important celebrations and festivals; significant teachings and stories that different religions follow. At the end of their time at Wendell Park School , children should have a good understanding of the religions and beliefs around them.
