Admissions

We are a two form entry school which means that we can take a maximum of 60 children in any one year group. To maximise learning opportunities for children we aim to work as far as possible in ability groups.

Our aim is to restrict the size of classes to a maximum of 30 children. In exceptional circumstances and for short periods of time, class sizes may be larger than this number.

The school conforms with the admissions criteria for entry to the Reception classes which has been established by the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. Children normally enter the Reception class in the term in which they celebrate their fifth birthday. except in exceptional circumstances and in agreement with the LEA.

Children can receive up to 6 terms maximum in the Foundation Stage at Wendell Park.

Parents and carers are required to complete an application form for admission to the school and where there are more applicants than places available the following factors are taken into consideration when deciding to whom the places should be offered:

Any social, medical, emotional or other need.
Whether the child has brothers and sisters already in the school.
The nearness of the child's home to the school.

In exceptional circumstances, the head teacher, in consultation with the Education Department, is able to admit children on the grounds of their acute medical or social needs even if they would not otherwise qualify for admission.

If parents or carers are not offered a place they have a right of appeal. Should this be necessary, the information will be provided on how to proceed. Detailed information is available from the School in the first instance.

Our nurseries provide 50 full time places and the curriculum provided by the two nursery units follows a common pattern along with Reception to form the Foundation Stage. Children requiring a nursery place may be offered a place between their third and fourth birthdays. Where there are more requests than places available, the school uses the selection criteria drawn up by the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham.

Our decisions about which children to take are based on a balance of educational, medical and social needs. We take into consideration: the number of places available, the age of the child, the nearness of the home to the school, the presence of brothers and sisters already in the school, the child's physical, language or learning needs, family circumstances and health.

The decision as to whether your child will be admitted to the nursery is taken by the school and there is no right of appeal if your child is unsuccessful in getting a nursery place.

When applying for a places in either the nursery department or the Reception class the child's name will be added to an application list. This is not a waiting list. The length of time the application has been with the school is not taken into consideration when making decisions about which children will be offered places.

For further details about admissions procedures parents and carers are advised to consult the "Starting School" booklet produced by the Education Department.

Transfers

When parents move into the area or wish to change their child's school, they should contact the head teacher who will advise them whether a place is available in a particular year group. If a place is available, the family will be invited to visit the school. The family will be shown around the school and asked to complete a number of application and information forms. The head teacher will usually contact the head teacher of the child's former school before a decision is finally made.

Where parents or carers are planning to remove their child from the school, the head teacher should be informed. Information about the child will then be passed on to the new school.

When children are in Year 6, preparations will begin for their transfer to secondary school.
