Year 6      Teacher: Mrs Brailsford     Term: Summer 2 2010

 

Well Done Year 6, the SATs are finally over! The results will be with us before the end of the school year. This half term we have planned several projects and will be teaching English and Maths transition units.

 

 

Project: Geography

Children will take part in a variety of activities:

  • Atlas work
  • Art and the environment
  • Mapping
  • Our Local Area whole school project

Project: Citizenship

Children will be learning about:

  • Children’s rights, wants and needs. They will research where and when children have been denied these rights.
  • How a debate works and how voting takes place.
  • The difference between right and wrong and why we have rules and laws. They will research the consequences when these rules and laws are broken.
  • How democracy works, including the role of the local council and elections.

Project: Money

Children will take part in a also a variety of money management activitie

 

English and Maths

Children will continue to have regular English and Maths lessons focusing on transition units for secondary school.  They will also continue to work on their writing in the Big Write.

 

Art and Design and Technology

They will produce both a class piece and an individual piece of art for our Arts Week Gallery on the topic of Around the World

In D.T. children will work in groups to create a large scale monster looking at scale, stability and strength.

 

ICT

Children will be using multimedia programmes to look back over their time at Wendell Park.

 

PE  - Games

Children will continue their P.E. lessons on Wednesday afternoons with a specialist teacher.

PE – Swimming

Children will continue to go swimming on the same day as last half term.

 

Relationship Education

A Sex and Relationship Education program will start this half term for all Year 6 children (please see letter).

We will also be studying Humanism.

In P.S.H.E. we will be doing work related to the Junior Citizen workshop we attended in the Autumn term.

 

French

Children will be reviewing the vocabulary they have learnt this year and learning about food and weather

 

Music

Children will continue their music lessons on Wednesday afternoons with a specialist teacher.

 

Transition

Year 6 will continue to look at aspects of moving on to Secondary school with the borough’s Transition Specialist and Mrs O.

 

Other notices

×         There will be no set homework this half term; however project related tasks will be sent out as appropriate.  Spelling and times table tests will continue as usual on a Friday. 

×         Water is not available in the Year 6 classrooms. It is vital that your child brings water to school that they can drink during sessions.

×         Notes for your diary – Leavers Assembly on Thursday 22nd July at 9:10am.
