PUPIL PROGRESS AND TARGET -SETTING January 13th 2012 Just before the end of last term the Hammersmith and Fulham primary school league tables were published. Wendell Parks results were not good, in particular the low percentage of pupils achieving L4+ in both English and mathematics and in maths results overall. We were dissappointed as we have high expectations. We were aware of the reasons why some children in this cohort had the potential to underachieve. The reasons for these low results have been identified and carefully analysed for lessons to be learnt, action to be taken to secure the results for other cohorts. As a school we are committed to striving for the best possible results for all children. Staff work hard to support every child. Whilst the raw results are weak, it is important to balance them against the fact that a high percentage ofthe children achieved the expected progress between Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, particularly in English and in maths progress was not significantly different to the national average. This is called Value Added by the DFE. Click here for more information on DFE Value Added
The school has good systems in place to track pupil's progress against National Curriculum levels. It starts with teachers making ongoing assessments during lessons to identify children's knowledge, understanding and skills. They use these assessments, with the information gained from formal tests and looking at children's work, to identify what children should learn next. They set targets which are shared with the children. Some classes have shared these with parents and we will be ensuring this happens for all children. There is no longer a statutory requirement to set targets for the end of Key Stage 2 but we have continued to do so and governors agreed the targets for the current Year 5 at their meeting on 29 November 2011 The targets are based on the prior attainment of the children in the year group and are for: 71% of children to achieve L4+ in both English and maths The actions taken to improve pupils achievements are: Maintaining the good results in KS1, targeting children with the potential to achieve L5, and increasing the percentage of children who get L4 in English and maths. |
